Daily Cybersecurity News Roundup – September 10, 2026

Stay updated with the latest cybersecurity news. This daily roundup covers record-breaking patch cycles, actively exploited zero-days, AI-orchestrated attacks, healthcare breaches, and law-enforcement takedowns. The last 48 hours were unusually dense: vendors shipped nearly 1,000 Microsoft fixes, Google patched its seventh Chrome zero-day of 2026, and researchers documented AI agents compromising hundreds of servers in minutes.

1. Microsoft Patches a Record 974 Vulnerabilities, Including Two Exploited Zero-Days

Published: 2026-09-09

Microsoft’s September 2026 Patch Tuesday set a new high-water mark, addressing 974 CVEs across Windows, Office, SQL Server, and developer tools (about 999 when bundled third-party fixes are counted). More than 110 issues were rated critical. Two privilege-escalation zero-days were already exploited in the wild, and researchers flagged roughly 20 potentially wormable flaws. Security teams should prioritize the exploited Windows ALPC heap overflow and other elevation-of-privilege bugs before working through the remainder of the list.

2. Chrome 153 Patches Seventh Zero-Day of 2026 (CVE-2026-87491)

Published: 2026-09-09

Google released Chrome 153 with 230 security fixes, including an out-of-bounds write in the V8 JavaScript/WebAssembly engine that was already being exploited. CVE-2026-87491 lets a remote attacker execute code inside the sandbox via a crafted HTML page. This is Chrome’s seventh in-the-wild zero-day of 2026. Users should update immediately to 153.0.8010.36/.37 (Windows/macOS) or 153.0.8010.36 (Linux). Chromium-based browsers (Edge, Brave, Opera) inherit the same V8 exposure until they ship equivalent builds.

3. Cisco Confirms Critical FMC Authentication Bypass Is Being Exploited

Published: 2026-09-09

Cisco confirmed active exploitation of CVE-2026-20079, a CVSS 10.0 authentication-bypass bug in Secure Firewall Management Center (FMC) and related Security Cloud Control management. Unauthenticated attackers can send crafted HTTP requests to the web interface and run scripts or commands as root. There are no complete workarounds. Cisco has patched the cloud-hosted service and published hotfixes plus indicators of compromise. Any internet-exposed or poorly segmented FMC instance should be treated as high priority.

4. Four Espionage Groups Deployed the Same BlueMoon Exploit Kit in One Week

Published: 2026-09-09

Multiple China-aligned and other espionage clusters rapidly adopted BlueMoon, a previously undocumented exploit kit that chains Chrome and Windows vulnerabilities to drop backdoors. First in-the-wild use was attributed to APT31 (Violet Typhoon / Bronze Vinewood) on 28 August 2026; several other groups followed within days. The speed of reuse shows how quickly exploit kits now move across state-aligned actors once a working Chrome+Windows chain exists. Patch Chrome and September Windows updates immediately, and hunt for post-exploitation backdoors rather than assuming the kit is “one group only.”

5. AdaptHealth Confirms 4.1 Million People Exposed After July Attack

Published: 2026-09-09

U.S. healthcare firm AdaptHealth confirmed that a cyberattack discovered in July exposed data belonging to about 4.12 million people. The company later said the compromise began on 6 June. Stolen data included names, contact and demographic details, health insurance information, and health information. Reporting has linked the incident to ShinyHunters. Affected individuals are being offered credit monitoring. This is one of several large 2026 healthcare-adjacent disclosures tied to third-party access and data-theft groups.

6. Veradigm Discloses Vendor API Breach After Ransomware Gang Claims 3.5M Records

Published: 2026-09-09

Electronic health-records vendor Veradigm told the SEC that an attacker used stolen third-party vendor credentials to query a customer-services API and download patient personal data, including some Social Security numbers. Veradigm says clinical/medical content and its broader network were not accessed. The Gentlemen ransomware group listed Veradigm on its leak site and claimed 3.5 million patient records. The incident is a textbook supply-chain/API identity failure: limited vendor credentials were enough to exfiltrate PII at scale.

7. Hundreds of AI Agents Used to Exploit PaperCut Flaws Across 440 Servers

Published: 2026-09-09

GreyNoise and follow-on reporting describe a Russian-speaking actor who used hundreds of autonomous AI agents (OpenAI Codex harness plus a DeepSeek model, plus public offensive tools) to exploit PaperCut NG/MF flaws CVE-2026-81578 and CVE-2026-82078. Researchers say at least 440 servers at 395 organizations in 48 countries were compromised. Time-to-impact was extreme: first real-world RCE in under four hours from an empty workspace, domain admin two hours later, and 11 organizations compromised in 26 seconds once the swarm launched. PaperCut servers that are internet-exposed or domain-joined should be patched and isolated immediately.

8. U.S. Disrupts Xinbi Guarantee Scam Marketplace and Freezes $52.8 Million

Published: 2026-09-09

The U.S. Department of Justice announced coordinated action against Xinbi Guarantee, an illicit marketplace that sold scam services. Authorities seized Telegram channels, confiscated crypto wallets, froze about $52.8 million, and supported disruption of 13 scam compounds in Madagascar linked to Chinese organized-crime networks. Treasury/OFAC also sanctioned related facilitators. Officials said the Scam Center Strike Force has now restrained roughly $938 million in total. This is one of the more visible 2026 enforcement actions against industrialized pig-butchering and call-center fraud infrastructure.

  • ChatGPT sandbox “shared clipboard”: Check Point showed a cross-account channel via an internal package service that could task another user’s session (including connected Gmail). OpenAI decommissioned the internal service.

Stay Vigilant

Patch velocity is now the story as much as any single CVE. In one week defenders had to absorb a near-1,000-CVE Microsoft release, a seventh Chrome zero-day, exploited Cisco FMC and Adobe Commerce bugs, and AI agents that can operationalize public exploits in hours. Prioritize:

  1. Browser and OS updates (Chrome 153+, September Patch Tuesday, especially exploited Windows bugs).
  2. Internet-facing management planes (Cisco FMC, PaperCut, MikroTik SSH, RMM/N-central, Magento/Adobe Commerce).
  3. Vendor and API identities — healthcare disclosures this week again came through third-party credentials, not core EHR databases.
  4. Assume AI-assisted scanning and exploitation is already in commodity use, not a future risk.
